Lizel van Rensburg swapped wedding-dress design for brewing tanks and built a proudly local Kommetjie brewery around creativity and collaboration. Home of South Beer.

Charlie Murray's brewery has been part of the Noordhoek community since 2013, known as much for the welcoming crowd around it as for the beer. Home of Charlie's Garage.

GOOD BEER.GOOD CAUSE.

A portion of the proceeds goes straight back into the community. This year it goes to the Joyce Chevalier Centre in Fish Hoek, a protective workshop that has provided sheltered employment and skills development for adults with disabilities since 1972, and to Fish Hoek Cricket Club.

  • Lizel van Rensburg, cofounder and founder of Valley Brewery

    Lizel van Rensburg

    Cofounder, Valley Brewery

    Lizel designed wedding dresses before she designed beers, and brought that same precision to Valley Brewery in Kommetjie. From couture to craft, the passion for making something special never changed.

  • Charlie Murray, cofounder and founder of Long Beach Brewery

    Charlie Murray

    Cofounder, Long Beach Brewery

    A passionate brewer and serial experimenter, Charlie has been part of the Noordhoek community since 2013, building a brewery known as much for its people as its beer. When he's not brewing, he's making music.

    Cofounder & Head Brewer, Aegir Project

    Rory honed his craft in breweries across New Zealand and Scotland before coming home to launch Aegir Project in 2015. Named for the Norse god of the sea and brewing, it has grown into a Deep South institution.

    A creative director and impact entrepreneur with decades of experience across events, sponsorships, hospitality, brand activations and community-driven initiatives. For Ryan, the Deep South Oktober Beer Fest is about bringing people together, supporting local and building an annual event on the Cape Town event calendar that the Deep South can be proud of and call its own.
